Posting to multiple micro blogging service

Happen to see this tool service few day ago , it’s like a cross posting service that can post to most of the micro blogging service, include twitter, jaiku , pownce and tumblr. I believe some of you guys might be using more then 1 micro blogging service and multiple service update it’s quite troublesome.

So far my testing on twitter, jaiku and tumblr working ok , all 3 services getting update immediately but tumblr display this entry twice, i wonder is it because of  tumblr v3 release causing this ? i m quite impress by some tiny thing, like after you input your username and password for other micro blogging service, it will actually verify first, when you did posting, a small animate icon will be show to inform you which service is posting now, after it complete the posting, a hyper link is show for you to access to the posted entry on the related micro blogging site.

actually i been hoping to develop a similiar idea like this, but who know someone did it already, geez you can’t just think sometime. Oh the only minus point of this site is not so english friendly ? some other language showing and mix with english , i think a clean up need to be done on this.

Tired day

Quite stressful for the past few day, rushing some of the last min project, i thought after yesterday demo, today should be a relax day just to clear some remaining bug, who know one of the project that i finish a week ago, have quite a number of issue, the more i try the more issue it appear, arghhhhh ..

Stressful sometime but i learn a lot and this is what i want, i have some technical skill but i need more experience to be  a more complete developer, but one thing make me worry is will my body getting all kind of programmer sick ? today like waving the mouse for long hour, my hand actually aching, i think i should try to minimize the mouse usage and balance it with using the keyboard do everything.

argh , it’s start of the Nov already but i haven’t plan it yet …

open social is the next big thing ?

I still recall few day ago, there are some post related to The Web is the Platform and these words are coming from someone that working at Google, make me think that something might be coming soon. Today it seem like lots of blog is talking about Google next big thing - Open Social

i think there are many post about what is Open Social  , after i understand the basic idea of Open Social  , the first thing that pop in my mind , this sounds like Netvibes’s UWA (universal widget api ) ? We have the same problem on widgets, there are so many platform for widgets, UWA allow you to create one widget that able to run on different platform and you only need to learn one format.

Currently this is similar situation in social networking , because of facebook’s success , lots of social networking is going to release their own platform, if that really happen, developer will be damn busy. I think Google is hitting the web2.0 sweetspot again, lets see november release will give us what kind of surprise.

As a developer , do you have these signs ?

As a newbie/noob developer , i have a new hobby which is reading developer related blog post but not really those technical kind of post. This post getting my attention today , 10 signs that you aren’t cut out to be a developer

Just do a quick compare to myself

  1. You’d rather be trained than self-teach - my php skill is self-teach
  2. You like regular working hours - so far none of my job have regular working hours
  3. You prefer regular raises to job-hopping - nope
  4. You do not get along well with others - so far i think i m quite ok into relation
  5. You are easily frustrated - yeah sometime, but still under control
  6. You are close-minded to others’ ideas - nope i m open to new idea
  7. You are not a “details person” - yeah i m not detail enough, one of my weakness
  8. You do not take personal pride in your work - nope i will try to get the work best if times allow
  9. You prefer to shoot first and ask questions later - nope i will plan before i code
  10. You do not like the geek type of person - not really i getting along well with my geek colleague

argh , rewrite partial of the post due to time out , lucky the auto saved feature in wordpress, i will rate myself 1.5/10 ( i think if get 10 , better switch to other job) , i know that i need to improve my temper and detail of work.

Microblogging on wordpress

This is one of the question that my friend ask me , how do i microblogging on wordpress ?

  • Microblogging refers to publishing very short status messages or updates of two to three sentences
  • Tumblelogging refers to publishing short-form, mixed media posts that can incorporate photos and videos.

i think the microblogging which my friend mention is include these 2 type, you can just limit yourself to write a short blog post within 140 char in wordpress, but that lost some fun of microblogging, i will suggest using twitter’s or jaiku’s client which you can find in every platform interact with wordpress. This will allow you to have best of both world, you can have fun with microblogging feature , at the same time it will generate nicely as wordpress post. These are some of the useful plugins.

  • Twitter Tools - update your twitter text to your wordpress blog
  • WP-Jaiku - update your wordpress blog to jaiku

for Tumblelogging just make use of QuickPost , which is a wordpress plugin, it will create similiar interface like tumblr , which allow you to post different media post, example post/links , photo and video, you can try a full suite of tumblelog for wordpress , which even support theme options.

Using different web services to express

Ops, it seem like my last blog post is 8 days ago, hhmmmm not really run out of topic just that i can’t concentrate sit in front the computer and blog, but if you have my facebook/twitter/jaiku account, you will know that my update is never stop.

I been thinking using different service for different blog

  • wordpress for my current blog
  • drupal for my dev
  • twitter/facebook for my mood
  • jaiku for my lifestream
  • tumblr for my news sharing

nothing much to say about the first 2 , the only thing that i need to remind myself is to write more often. I been make use of twitter and facebook status to express my feeling recently, is wierd but kind of enjoy it, it’s a bit like an offline version of Instant Messager, which i check on it only when i want.

Jaiku is running my lifestream perfectly , i been thinking of using it to share news at first, but too bad there is no way to split out aggregate content and what i post on jaiku, so i can just leave it as lifestream tools for now, until google did some magic on it ?

last will be tumblr, i have a new habit which update my yahoo status for latest IT news , seem like sharing news  is my new hobby ? anyway tumblr going to have major update on 1st Nov, i shall see what are the new thing they provide.

OS that i m willing to pay

As a windows user for many year, i never really feel like paying for the OS, most of the time will try to get the system that already bundle with OS ( yaya still indirectly paying but i won’t just pay $ and get OS only).

Now I have just on my way switching to mac and i would say after looking at this guided tour, i really don’t mind to spend money on it. it something that really worth it.

Tired because of too focus ?

Nearly one week without blogging, not really out of topic, some of the topic is in my mind , just that i feel tired after work and don’t really wish to do anything.

Why is it tired ? compare to my previous job , my current job is a total different experience,  for the past few day i been keep my mind working in hyper active mode, because there are quite a few project on hand, so i trying my best to maximize my brain working frequency to ultra speed , so that i can complete my project in my target time.

the result ? quite tired after work, it’s like finish all the energy just to make my brain work that fast ( haha like my whole life not many chance to do that ) , it seem like use up all the petrol just to rush to a location, geez i think i still need some time to adjust my timing and get use to it as a developer.

Maybe i should facebook more to relax myself during office hour , haha …

Question about Facebook recent growth

i saw the post that talking about Facebook Apps Contribute 37% of Recent Growth  , i wonder is this 37% of growth is  more like quantity growth  or quality growth ?

Quantity Growth - just increase lots of dummy account for using the apps or to test some new apps ?

Quality Growth - getting those addict user that report to facebook daily or simply facebook become their second life ?

why this question is pop up simply because a good example - warbook , one of the popular games in facebook ( imagine a lite version of Utopia ) , base on my understand in this game , some of the user actually create multple facebook acccount, so that they can have multiple hero in the game which work together, this seem like bring in a lot of traffic , but it only looks good on number. Since the purpose is just for the games, is more like a dummy account.

I wonder is this kind of growth really consider “Growth” ?

Hurray for Jaiku

i think this should be one of the hot topic this week, Google acquires Jaiku , in stead of twitter . I think there are lots of blog entry talking about this already, one of the main reason should be because Jaiku Mobile ( hints : Gphone ? )

When starting of micro blogging trends, this 2 are consider the leads of the trends, but i think Jaiku is a bit unlucky, didn’t getting as much hype as twitter . Jaiku is always my favourite , if compare to twitter . but when the people around you all is using twitter , you got not much choice.

Without social network, micro blogging is bored, one good example that i always remember is some people describe micro blogging is just like the status text that you set on your msn, to tell the rest of friend, what happen to you or what are you currently doing, but without friends that added your msn ( social network ) all those status is just meaningless.

By the way, currently Jaiku is working on the new backend ( link to google ? ) , you need invitation to register Jaiku , i still have 9 invitation, leave your email if you need one. My jaiku is http://imknight.jaiku.com , i built it when i blog about how to use Jaiku for lifestream
